Fully automated shrink sleeve solution for syrup and beverage bottles
How can syrup bottles be automatically fitted with printed shrink sleeves after filling when the sleeve is intended to enhance the packaging design and provide tamper-evident protection at the same time? This application illustrates the requirements that need to be considered when developing an automated shrink sleeve packaging solution.
In this case, the syrup bottles are transferred directly from the existing filling line and sleeved fully automatically. The solution uses a printed full-body shrink sleeve that provides 360-degree brand visibility while extending over the cap to create a visible tamper-evident seal.
For this application, alpha-pack combines a sleeve labeling machine with conveyor technology and a sleeve steam tunnel. tbs-pack GmbH complements the machinery with custom-printed shrink sleeves. After filling, the bottles are transported to the sleeve labeling machine via a conveyor system. The machine automatically applies and accurately positions the shrink sleeves. The bottles are then conveyed directly into the sleeve steam tunnel.
The adjustable steam distribution allows the material to shrink evenly and gently around the bottle. The system can be configured for different bottle shapes and sizes and integrated into an existing filling and packaging line.
Printed full-body shrink sleeves provide 360-degree coverage, creating a large surface area for eye-catching brand presentation. Branding, product information and barcodes can all be incorporated directly into the custom packaging design.
When the shrink sleeve extends over the cap, it also acts as a visible tamper-evident seal. An optional tear perforation makes the bottle easier to open and allows the section around the closure to be removed cleanly.
Which Materials Are Suitable for Shrink Sleeves?
tbs-pack manufactures custom-printed shrink sleeves and offers rPET and C-PET solutions in addition to standard shrink sleeve materials.
rPET contains fully or partially recycled PET. C-PET has been developed to facilitate the separation of the shrink sleeve from the PET bottle material during the recycling process.
The most suitable material is selected according to the bottle, printed design, packaging process and intended disposal or recycling route. The recyclability of the entire packaging system must always be assessed, including the bottle, cap, label and sleeve.
Before production begins, alpha-pack GmbH and tbs-pack GmbH can jointly test the bottle, shrink sleeve and machine. The tests cover factors such as sleeve positioning, steam distribution and the final shrink result.
